Colin M. Lenton Photography | Behind the Lens | FAQ
What kind of work do you specialize in?
I focus on commercial and editorial portraiture, with a specialty in pharmaceutical and healthcare campaigns. My work balances authentic storytelling with high production value — whether it’s a large agency shoot or an intimate editorial assignment.
Where are you based?
My office is in South Philadelphia’s Bok Building, though I regularly travel for productions in New York, Nashville, Austin and beyond. My team and I are seasoned travelers and all of our passports are current. We will go wherever it takes to get the right photo.
Who hires you?
Creative agencies, editorial outlets and companies large and small. I've worked with teams at large agencies like Area23, Digitas Health and Evoke - as well as magazines, direct to companies and corporations and even individuals. I work with anyone who values strong portrait work and storytelling with real people.
Do you only shoot healthcare and pharma?
No ! I also photograph lifestyle campaigns, corporate portraits, brand narrative and even editorial features. Healthcare Is a big part of my work because I'm drawn to stories of optimism and hope, but my approach translates across industries.
What aspects of production can your team handle?
Everything from pre-production planning through post. My team can cover casting, location scouting, crew, styling, HMU, and retouching - or plug seamlessly into an existing production structure.
Are you repped?
I'm not currently represented, but I collaborate with respected production partners like NLD. I'm also comfortable working directly with an agency's preferred production company. While I'm not actively seeking representation, if you are a rep, I'm always open to conversations if one is genuinely Interested In my work and has a specific project in mind.
Can you work within our agency's production process?
Absolutely. I'm comfortable leading full productions or integrating into your existing workflow, depending on what the project calls for.
What is your experience in healthcare and pharma?
I have over 12 years of experience working on numerous global pharmaceutical campaigns, as well as KOL and real patient portraits. I'm told that I'm good at making the most nervous of my subjects feel comfortable and relaxed on set and in front of the camera. I also have almost 20 years of experience working directly with hospitals for their own campaigns, magazines and annual reports.
Do you shoot video as well as stills?
My focus is still photography, but I often collaborate with directors and DP partners to deliver Integrated still + motion campaigns.
How do you approach working with non-professional talent?
Many of my subjects are real patients, doctors, or executives. My strength is creating a comfortable environment that allows people to feel natural and authentic in front of the camera. I use clear direction, and am respectful of our subject's time, dignity and concerns.
Do you license or provide buyouts for your work?
Yes, I tailor licensing to match the scope of use, whether for digital, print, or broadcast campaigns.
Where are some of your favorite places you've shot?
One of my most memorable projects was a three-day assignment near the Ring of Kerry in Ireland, where I hiked miles each day, capturing lush green landscapes that were composited into a backdrop. In the U.S., beyond my home city of Philadelphia, I've especially enjoyed shooting in La Jolla, California, and Memphis, Tennessee.
